Autumn Release - Hektar Site Tools

Simon Brobäck

Head of Design & Architect

Since the release of Hektar in February, our development team has been working diligently behind the scenes, preparing exciting new features set to launch this autumn. Over the summer, we’ve gained many new users and strengthened our collaborations with select partners. We want to sincerely thank everyone for the valuable insights and feedback, which have been instrumental in guiding the development of Hektar.

Today, we’re excited to announce the first release of our autumn updates, focusing on enhancing the interaction between users, the site, and our generative algorithms. This marks the first step towards our goal of generating more precise and accurate scenarios. We’re calling this feature update: Site Tools.

With Site Tools, users can now define, control, and revise geometric inputs for each project and iteration. Many users have shared that they often come to Hektar with only a vague idea of their desired outcome. In response, Site Tools empowers users to guide the algorithms more effectively, leading to more accurate and tailored results—a seamless transition from concept to generated scenario.

The Site page within each project has been redesigned to include a wider range of advanced tools, each clearly explained and displayed in both the object panel and the site map.

Some of the tools included in this release are:

  • Road Tool – Define known divisions of the site, such as roads, and let the algorithm generate an extended street grid for larger areas or simply fill in gaps with buildings. You can also adjust the road width and type.
  • Park Tool –Designate green areas to be included in the proposal.
  • Parking Tool –Specify parking areas and choose whether they are ground-level, underground, orintegrated into buildings. These areas will guide the algorithm in generatingadditional parking to meet your desired standards.
  • Restricted Area Tool – Identify zones where development is prohibited. These could include areas regulated by city plans, existing structures, or landscape features that must be preserved.

Additionally, the new Site Overview panel provides essential information about the site, such as nearby transit stations, existing buildings, and sun orientation, helping users make more informed decisions when using these new tools.

This release is just the beginning of our efforts to give users more control and precision in the development of Hektar. We look forward to sharing more exciting updates later this autumn—stay tuned!
